Excuse Me, Can You Give Me Directions?

Seriously, how am I to think? What can I do in the midst of international and local disasters… wars, famine, cruelty, explosions of violence, division, hatred, contempt, murder?

My ancestors searched for wisdom.

And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore…

– 1 Kings 4:29

What does it mean to have understanding beyond measure, breadth of mind like sand on the seashore?

What is the source of this wisdom that exceeds knowledge?

How do I enlarge my mind beyond my little thoughts and limited experiences?

Wisdom poured into Solomon in such abundance, it is compared to the sand on the sea shore.

Is this for real? Did God actually give Solomon wisdom? Can I dare to ask for insight, understanding and wisdom?

And then there is Abraham, God also spoke directly to him, comparing the blessing he is to receive with  numberless grains of sand on the seashore:

I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand of the sea shore….

– Genesis 22:17

The promise of descendants to Abraham in old age  while still childless, is confirmed by double metaphors… innumerable stars and grains of sand.

The cover artist captures Abraham’s joyful wonder in the exact moment he believes the promise.

As one little grain of sand, one tiny star among the vast multitude of descendants God promised to Abraham, I am captivated by Amy’s take on Abraham as a real person and wrote this review:

Amy’s writing always leads me to delight and wonder. The old familiar stories of my Jewish roots are suddenly imbued with freshness and intrigue.

Abraham and Solomon received answers to their quest for wisdom, beyond their wildest dreams.

Can I dare to ask for insight, understanding and wisdom?
